The data has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardised format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 22 records (taxonID). One extension data table also exists with 300 occurrences. Aquatic hyphomycetes spores were sampled from 40 stream sites distributed by 27 permanent streams on Madeira islands. Aquatic hyphomycetes spores were sampled by filtering 5 litres of stream water (47 mm diameter, 8 µm pore size; Whatman GF/C, GE Healthcare Europe GmbH, Little Chalfont, U.K.). The filters were stained with cotton blue in 60% lactic acid (0.05%) and mounted on a slide.
